As some followers might be aware, I am at the editing stage of my first novel. It is taking me a vast amount of time as :
- It is Epic fantasy; and
- I have a full-time job.
These are not excuses but scheduling editing around my lifestyle is tough and allows for little time at night and weekends.
A normal day of writing for me, on a weekend is:
- Wake up at 6am ā dedicate time to check blog, write a post and emails.
- Do some exercise ā run, walk the dog or go for a surf.
- Edit till lunchtime
- Eat
- Spend time with my partner (depending on what time of the day with her work schedule)
- Take the dog for another walk (usually as a break from the screen)
- Edit
- Dinner
- Read before bed.
During the week at night, I try to incorporate:
- Do some exercise ā run, walk the dog or go for a surf.
- Spend time with my partner (depending on what time of the day with her work schedule)
- Edit
- Dinner
- Read before bed.
During my writing sessions, I set timers with an app Stay focused on my laptop. It’s an amazing app that allows breaks and regular intervals.
I try to follow this schedule as much as possible but life is unpredictable and change can happen.
How does your writing schedule look?

It can be rough to find the time for writing with a full-time job. I do find that editing is easier to get into after a long day than drafting new material. Good luck!

It definitely is but more time consuming on scenes and the backstory.
