Should I Use Reddit?
I spoke to a few people about Reddit and what it actually is. If you don’t use Reddit or you don’t know what it is. Reddit is a web content rating and discussion website. Registered members submit content to the site such as links, text posts, and images, which are then voted up or down by other members.
Before I went and created an account, DouglasWTSmith, I did a bit of research of what content was being post on there. I was surprised at the involvement of people answering the questions and strict rules each subreddit has to prevent spammers and unrelated content.
Three things to consider before you sign up.
Do I really want to waste my time with another social network?
Reddit is not really a social network; it more closely resembles a message board where members follow certain topics, post questions, post comments and vote on whether a topic is interesting within subreddits.
What is a subreddit?
A subreddit is a sub-forum about a specific topic.
Each subreddit has independent moderators, specific rules and voting systems that depend on the theme.
There are about 10,000 subreddits, and anyone can create a new subreddit for free and make it public or private. A subreddit that receives at least five comments a day is considered “active.”
Best subreddits for Writers and Authors
Here are a few subreddits that might capture your attention:
/r/fantasywriters
/r/writing
/r/worldbuilding
/r/betareaders
In general, keep details vague. Avoid sharing personal or identifying information. You cannot engage in voting manipulation of content, do anything illegal or bully others. In summary, I will be using reddit in addition to the other social media sites with my blog content and writing practice. I hope to see you there.
