We all experience it, the lack of inspiration, motivation and daily problems weave into our creativity time but how do we deal with it.
How do we spark the creativity and sit down in front of the blinking cursor to write?
Between simple life hacks and prioritizing your writing, you can finish your story.
Here are several tips for how to find time to write:
Reading. I set a reading wish list this year on my goodreads account #FridayReads Challenge. The main reason I increased my reading was to fuel my creativity. If I don’t feel like writing, I read. As Stephen King said, ‘If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time to write.’
Podcasts. I love listening to podcasts. Sometimes as I run or walk I listen to podcasts, but for inspiration, I focus more on workshops. I have posted about the podcasts I listen to, here Writers Podcast. As a fantasy writer, the podcasts are limited but Writing Excuses is my favourite. It is hosted by fantasy authors Brandon Sanderson, Mary Robinette Kowal, Dan Wells and Howard Tayler as they discuss writing techniques in a fast-paced fifteen minute format for all genres.
Music. Some people cannot listen to music and write – I can. By music, I listen to classical and theatrical. MOst of the time, its background music to fill the empty silent space. Try writing with instrumental music – see if that sparks teh creativity.
Quiet time: This works for some people but for me, this is the hardest but possibly the thing that gives me the most back in terms of creativity.
Exercise. This is the best way for me to be quiet and not be restless. Sometimes I’ll take my dog for a walk or go for a hike by myself. While I exercise sometimes, I get ideas for my current story and future stories, which I’ll make sure to record on my phone. It’s amazing how restorative exercise can be, just to literally walk away form the screen or writing setting can spark more creativity and encouraging you to write when you return to your writing space.
How do you fill your spark creativity?

Walking always sparks new ideas for me. I listen to music when I write but can write in silence, too.

I like to walk as well, sometimes leaving a commonplace helps clear the mind. Thank you for commenting 😃

I do my best creative thinking while I’m walking. I also listen to music while I write. Classical and hammered dulcimer music work best for me. It can be playing softly in the background but tends to shut out distracting noises.

Walking helps clear the mind and sometimes that background music eliminates the chirping bird or the wind flapping trees onto the window lol.
