I am sorry for the lack of posts last week, it was a vibrant, energetic and exhausting. However, this week I aim to make it up and as always begin it with Tuesday Discussion.
Last weeks post looked at the key points to writing a Synopsis for your manuscript.
This week is about author collaboration.
A few points come to mind when discussing author collaborations.
- Â Communication– For myself, I would like the author to be in physical form as the creative and writing process could flow a bit more natural.
- Genre – Obviously, your partner needs to have the same taste in genre e.g. fantasy
- Narrative voice – I read Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman’s Death Gate cycle and the narrative voice at times seemed distinct of whom was in control of what scene. If I did a collaboration I would want a smooth narrative voice with the author throughout the whole novel.
As a reader: Do you like reading novels that have two authors?
As a writer/ author: Have you done a collaboration before? If so, how was the process?
Would you consider doing a collaboration with another author?
Post your comments and answers below. If you think someone has an interesting point of view and answer, please invite them or share this post to them.

I’ve read a couple books by co-authors that I really liked. The latest one was Grey Stone and Grey Lore, and I thought the co-authors did wonderfully.
I don’t think I’d want to co-author anything with someone, though. I guess I don’t play well with others. I don’t know. xD I feel like writing, for me, is a very personal thing between me, my computer, my coffee, and whatever curses happen to fall from my lips at the time.

I will have to check them out.
I thought of that, whether the co-author would understand a plot point or a suggestion and it could get heated 😂
I admire authors that have successfully completed a novel or series together.
For some, like yourself and maybe me, it is a personal journey.
Thank you for your input this week 😃

Ive read “Beautiful Creature,” and found it hardly noticeable. But, I believe thats the only book I’ve read with two authors?… Very interesting! I would totally be up for a collaboration, though. Im sure its loads of fun. 🙂

It is quite an interesting topic because I spoke to a few writers and some loved it and the others didn’t.
I think I would also be up for a collaboration but it would be after I have already published my novel, so I had an author profile 😃
Thank you for contributing.

And yes, that makes sense; after already beings published. Totally agree.

I don’t think I could do a collaboration without knowing the other writer well in advance, and how duties would be divided. I would not collaborate on an idea that I have had in mind for a long time, it would have to be one of those “you meet someone, spitball some ideas, you both fixate on one and think it is fantastic, then work together to create it,” type scenarios! Which for me seems an unlikely happenstance!

It would be so hard to do it with a strange but exciting. I think that’s how collaborations evolve from water cooler talk or tavern talk 😂
Thank you for contributing.
